Our History

It all started with Charles Baudouin creating a small, petrol-fueled canoe engine that would later be
marked in history as the first official ‘Baudouin engine’.

The Baudouin metal foundry family business underwent a dramatic change in 1918 post the First
World War. The ringing of bells was replaced with the whirring of engine motors. Today, the brand is
reckoned as a dominating force in the world of marine propulsion.

1918-1920

1918-1920:

Starting Small

The first commercial Baudouin products were made to order for marine traders. As demand grew, Baudouin began creating bigger runs of their engines.

1920-1940

1920-1940:

First Baudouin
Diesel Engine

Introduced first-ever product range, designed to meet the demands of the marine industry. Baudouin’s first diesel-powered engine was released followed by an innovative new product range.

1940-1950

Baudouin-Offers gearboxes, propellers and diesel generators

1940-1950:

Booming Business

No longer just manufacturing the engines, the Baudouin catalogues now offered an array of gearboxes, propellers and diesel generators. Over 22,000 DK engines were sold in this period.

1950-1980

Baudouin-manufacturing power generation engines

1950-1980:

Expanding the
Product Line

Baudouin diversified its range and started manufacturing power generation engines for some of Europe’s biggest Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

1980-2008

Baudouin-entered world of offshore racing

1980-2008:

Need For Speed

Baudouin entered the exciting world of offshore racing, with speedboats powered exclusively by their engines. The expanded VTI range helped move Baudouin into new markets.

2008-2018

Baudouin-rebranded into power generation market

2008-2018:

New Identity

With the dawn of a new decade, Baudouin rebranded with a new identity and diversified again into the power generation market with a new segment - the PowerKit range.
